TimeBank is working with VITA (Volunteering Initiative for the Third Age) to run a recruitment campaign to promote volunteering to older people. VITA is a Home Office funded project, working to raise the profile of older volunteers, especially those over the age of 65. VITA is expected to run for two years in the first instance. It is co-ordinated by WRVS, but directed by a steering group of organisations from the voluntary sector.

If you're experiencing any problems registering or have a query, please call Ling Tsang, TimeBank Customer Relations Manager, on 020 7785 6369 or e-mail j.tsang@timebank.org.uk.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) was formed in 1988 as part of Community Service Volunteers, and exists to encourage people over the age of 50 to actively participate in their communities. Across the U.K. some 10,000 volunteers take part in a huge range of activities including helping schoolchildren with their reading, working with Hospitals and GP Surgeries, environmental projects, telephone befriending and much more. Volunteers find that this work is a source of great satisfaction and pleasure, and that it also helps to keep them fit and healthy.

All the activities are volunteer led, with the support of a small number of paid staff. Age is no barrier, people from different cultures are warmly welcomed as are those who are disabled or visually impaired.
